Below you will find a typical sequence of events involved in a web project. While there is no cut and dry method for starting and completing a project, the steps noted here are quite common.
When you submit a request for information, you will be contacted via phone or email by one of our staff. We will ask you questions about your site needs and determine whether or not further discovery is needed prior to creating a proposal. Further discovery could require a meeting with other staff members depending on the skills required for the site or additional research into the best implementation strategy for your site's needs. Once we have determined how best to address your needs, we will create a proposal outlining the project, the cost estimate, and timeline estimate. We will forward this proposal to you for you review. If accepted, we will convert the proposal into a contract for signing along with an invoice for the initial deposit.
Once we receive the initial deposit and signed contract, our graphic design team will work with you on creating a custom design site. This process involves determining your design needs and expectations through conversations and examples. Sometimes, the design process requires a facelift for a current site, or it might require the creation of brand identity for a client, including logo creation. The length of time this phase takes depends on client response and feedback as well as the number of mockups required to achieve the end design. The graphic design team member who works on your mockups will be your primary point of contact throughout the design phase. Whatever your needs, our team will put together a site that exceeds your expectations both in functionality and aesthetic.
Once home page and sub page mockups have been approved, the design team will notify you that the designs are being passed along to the production team. At this point, you should have provided all site content. The production team will take the site designs and code them into reality on the web, using CSS and HTML to markup the site and give it a visual presence. Depending on the site's functionality, the production team will employ programming code to create shopping carts, online registration/contact forms, databases, content management systems, and more.
The production process can take a couple of days to a couple of weeks or even months depending on the complexity and size of the site and the production schedule at the time the design files and content are received. A production team member will notify you when he or she receives the design files and will provide you with a time estimate based on the current production schedule. The production team member will become your primary point of contact for the rest of the project. The length of time this phase takes can be accelerated by providing all content up front along with timely feedback. Content and feedback delays can result in longer timelines as other projects in the production pipeline will be moved forward while we wait on content and feedback.
When the production team completes programming/coding the site, we will create a "test site" where you can take your site for a test run. Sometimes a test site is created after specific phases of coding, especially for longer, more complex projects so that you can view your site under development. At this point, we will request that you perform a thorough review of the site. Once you have reviewed the site, you can submit to us your final revisions.
After our production team has implemented all final revisions, we will work with you to coordinate the launch of the website. If you are moving to NetMediaOne from a different host, we can assist with related services such as DNS and email.
