Frequently Asked Questions

topHow much does a website cost?
Consider houses: On one end of the spectrum you have prefabricated trailer homes that are inexpensive but compromise on quality, features, customization, and overall aesthetics. On the other end, Buckingham Palace: A massive, sprawling creation built and modified to suit the needs and whims of a specific customer over many years. The price of a website, like a house, depends entirely on what you want it to do for you. We'll work with you to find a solution that compliments your needs and budget.
topHow long does it take to build a custom website?
Smaller sites are often produced in 20 to 50 hours of work, while some projects span many months and thousands of hours. As with the previous question, it really depends on the scope and nature of the site.
When clients provide us with their logos, the files should be vector-based (meaning they use curves and lines without any pixels) formats such as .eps (Encapsulated PostScript) or .ai (Adobe Illustrator).
topWhat formats should be used when clients provide project photos?
Clients may provide photos in a variety of raster (or pixel-based) formats including: JPEG (high quality), TIFF, PSD, and BMP. JPEGs are the most common, but we would advise all clients to provide them as large as possible with as high a level of quality as is available to them.
topDo you use stock photography?
Sometimes clients ask us to use stock photos in their projects, and we will gladly do so. Stock photos can either be provided by our clients or by us. If a given client asks us to license a particular photo, we should note that we hold the license - not the client - and there are terms related to the license that may limit future use of the photo by the client in question. So in most cases we prefer that the client purchases stock photo licenses and then provides the photos to us for use on the client website or video, but we will certainly handle the purchase of a license if a client requests it.
topWhat is a URL?
A Uniform Resource Locator, or URL, represents the location of a resource on the Internet. For example, this web page has a URL (http://www.netmediaone.com/help/faq) which can be seen in your browser's address bar. Each image or other resource used within this page also has its own unique URL.
topWhat is a domain?/What is DNS?
Each computer connected to the Internet is provided with a numeric address called an IP address. Like a phone number, it identifies a unique end point for communications so that two systems can talk to each other. Of course, the Internet would not be where it is today if people had to remember and keep track of the numbers for every resource they wanted to access! That's where the Domain Name System (DNS) comes in. Like a phone book, DNS translates a human-friendly "domain name" (www.google.com) to its computer-friendly address (208.69.36.230). Domain names are usually made up of several parts in order from most specific to least specific, with each part separated by a period.
topHow can I get a domain name?
The Domain Name System is managed by a central global authority which allows domain names to be leased on a first-come, first-served basis. A company which brokers these leases is known as a registrar. GoDaddy, Register.com, and Network Solutions are just a few of the hundreds of companies which provide domain registration services. Domain registration is usually a fast and easy process. First, you verify that the name you want is not already leased to someone else. If it is available, you can obtain a lease for one or more years by paying an annual fee. If the domain name you want has already been leased by another party, you must wait until the lease has terminated before you can try to reserve the domain. NetMediaOne can also handle the acquisition and management of domains on your behalf, allowing you to focus on what matters most: your website and its content.
topDo you host websites and email?
Yes, we host both websites and email along with services associated with them. You can see our hosting plans by clicking here.
topWhy can't I find my website in search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing)?
Search engines use automated programs called "spiders" or "crawlers" to traverse the web, following links and indexing pages as they go. If a site which is indexed by these programs links to your site, it will eventually be found, crawled, and added to the search engines. If you don't want to wait for that to happen (and who does?), most search engines also provide a way to directly submit your site's address so that it can be crawled indexed.
topWhat is FTP?
File Transfer Protocol is one of the most popular methods for moving files between computers on the Internet.
topWhat is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving a website's visibility and ranking for one or more search engines. An SEO campaign is usually designed to unfold over 6 months or more, during which website content is continually adjusted based on testing and feedback.
